New Dawn FM 95.3, a private commercial radio station is located in Buka Town.

There are two local FM radio stations. NBC Bougainville (Karai Blong San Kamap) located at Hutzena in Buka, is one of the 19 PNG National Broadcasting Commission radio stations, on FM 100.

 

Television

There is one local television station (EMTV). Cable and satellite broadcasts are available through a cable company in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville on most of the hotels and guesthouses. DVD movies are available at around K30 – K40. These are pirate copies of the movie and so the quality varies often with Chinese and Malay subtitles.

Newspapers

There are two national daily English language newspapers, and a weekly Tok Pisin newspaper, Wantok. The PNG Post Courier is owned by the News Corporation in Australia, The National is owned by Rimbujan Hija and Wantok is published by Word Publishing, a company owned by the major Churches and has been at the forefront of journalistic development in PNG since pre-Independence. The weekly Sundary Chronicle is also sold.

The Post Courier and The National normally reach Buka each day that the Air Niugini plane arrives daily during the week. The cost is K2.00 for the airmail issue
