Day 1: Arrive Buka travel Arawa



Note: Depending on day of week flights arrive between 8.30 am and 11.40 am

Note: We suggest you book the 6.00 am flight out of Port Moresby to maximize your stay in Bougainville

Note:From early 2015 there will direct flights to Arawa/Aropa/Kieta, so we are hoping that the schedule will allow our gusts to fly into Buka and out from Aropa

Tour: Travel down the east coast of Bougainville to Arawa Central Bougainville via Wakunai and Loloho stopping at village markets and other points of interest

Day 2 – Tour of mountain villages /Panguna mine/Eco tourism

Breakfast: Arawa Visitors Centre

Morning pick up 7.30 am

Travel to Panguna Mine Site


The Panguna mine situated in the mountains 1 hour travelling time from Arawa was once one of the richest Copper, Gold and Silver mines in the world and was a major factor in the Bougainville crisis 1989-2000 which saw the mine closed down

Lunch: Will provided on arrival at the Eco Tourism Centre

Afternoon visit to eco-tourism centre

Manee Eco tourism Resource Centre in Kongara is such a peaceful and educational to visit. Go to explore the gardens, feed the fish in the fish pond and sit and relax in the haus win. Owned by Leo & Julylah Orinu

Accommodation:  Arawa Visitors Centre or visitors have the option of staying overnight in our village guest house

Dinner: Either at the Arawa Visitors Centre or our village guests house

Day 3- Visit PokPok Island and Arovo Island

Breakfast: Arawa Visitors Centre

Morning pick up 7.30 am from Arawa Visitors Centre our community guest house

Travel to Pokpok and Arovo Island


Take a vehicle ride to Kieta Beach then catch a banana boat for 20 minutes boat ride to Pokpok Island. During the arrival at the village there will be a welcoming ceremony by the villagers. In the ceremony there will be traditional ritual the washing of feet with cold water, and an organised village tour and a cultural singing is perform. More things like artefacts are always on display for markets.

Lunch: Picnic lunch on PokPok Island.

From Pokpok Island take a 20 minutes boat ride to Arovo Island for Snorkelling, Diving, and islandday trip at a white sand beach.

Dinner: Provided at Arawa Visitors Centre

Day 4- Travel back to Buka airport

Breakfast: Arawa Visitors Centre

Morning pick up TBA

Travel back up the east coast of Bougainville to Buka via Wakunai to catch plane back to Port Moresby. Pick up times will vary depending on day/departure time

From early 2015 there will direct flight out of Arawa/Aropa/Kieta so a trip back to Buka will not be necessary
